We’re pleased to share positive progress in Switzerland’s climate cooperation with partner countries. Several greenhouse gas mitigation activities are advancing toward authorisation under Article 6.2. With support from the KliK Foundation, these activities enable the replacement of carbon-intensive technologies and the scaling of cleaner solutions across key sectors.
The emission reductions achieved by these activities will be certified by independent verifiers and by Switzerland and the respective partner country after thorough review and issued to the KliK Foundation in the form of ITMOs. We expect substantial ITMO volumes to be delivered as early as 2026. This demonstrates that climate protection activities under Article 6.2 have an impact in partner countries with which Switzerland has a bilateral climate agreement. These activities will make a significant contribution to the fulfilment of Switzerland's national climate target while ensuring a sustained reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the respective partner country.
Under the Paris Agreement, Switzerland has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50 per cent by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. The plan is to achieve up to one third of the required reductions abroad through collaborative approaches, in accordance with Article 6 of the Agreement. New klik.ch homepage
Did you know that part of your fuel costs goes directly towards financing mitigation activities? With up to 5 pence added to every litre of petrol or diesel, the KliK Foundation has been financing numerous mitigation projects in this country since 2013 and abroad since 2022, reducing CO₂ emissions by a total of 17 million tonnes to date!
Our new homepage now shows at a glance the importance of the KliK Foundation as a reliable, effective partner for climate protection measures that are approved by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), meet the highest standards and achieve a measurable, sustainable impact that will continue well beyond the next few years.
It is a fact that road traffic still emits greenhouse gases and thus damages the climate. However, with the KliK Foundation's legal commitment to the implementation of climate protection projects, there is a proven, legally anchored tool that will reduce a quarter of these emissions by 2025 and half by 2030.
Switzerland's second fully electrified construction site in Basel
)
Following the city of Zurich's launch of its first fully electric construction site in the spring, the canton of Basel-Stadt is now also testing the concept. Diesel and petrol engines are being phased out across the board, from excavators to logistics trucks and crew vehicles. This pilot project forms part of a Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) study on the electrification of urban construction sites and will help Basel achieve its ambitious climate target of net zero by 2037.
Anyone wishing to register an electric construction vehicle for the KliK Foundation's supported programme should do so as soon as possible. Only vehicles that will be put into operation by 31 December 2025 are eligible for funding in new projects. However, new registrations of vehicles in existing projects are still possible.

Mobile charging on e-construction sites
Among other things, Liebherr's Liduro Power Port LPO 100 mobile charging station was used on the e-construction site in Basel. The Power Port demonstrates how sustainable construction site power supply works on modern construction sites today: with 94 kWh of energy content, it delivers up to 110 kVA peak power, replacing conventional diesel generators – silently, locally emission-free and efficiently. With power outputs ranging from 16 A to 125 A, it supplies cranes, construction containers or lighting directly with energy – independently of the mains supply. This significantly reduces CO₂ emissions, lowers operating costs and creates planning security – especially on temporary construction sites without a grid connection. Liebherr's mobile energy storage device is robustly built, mobile and ready for immediate use. Climate-friendly construction thus becomes practical and economically feasible, thereby making a contribution to the decarbonisation of the construction industry.
Attractive supported programmes of the KliK Foundation
Climate protection in Switzerland, climate protection abroad: both are both sensible and necessary for a sustainable future. In addition to the climate protection activities abroad that are often in the spotlight, it is easy to forget how sustainable and successful the KliK Foundation's funding programmes have been in Switzerland since 2013. The KliK Foundation supports investments in projects that demonstrably reduce greenhouse gas emissions, make economic sense thanks to financial support and can be operated on a long-term basis.
In 2023, for example, around 1.5 million tonnes of CO2e were reduced in this country thanks to financial support measures in the areas of transport, business, buildings and agriculture, as well as individual projects (as of October 2025). This corresponds roughly to the emissions generated if all registered passenger cars with combustion engines in the canton of Zurich (around 627,000 vehicles) were to drive around 12,000 kilometres per year – or if all vehicles were to drive from Zurich to Cape Town.

With a view to the 2030 horizon set out in the current Swiss CO₂ Act, the KliK Foundation continues to run numerous supported programmes that accept new projects. It provides financial support for investments in climate protection projects – including for you!
Are you a farmer, operator of a wastewater treatment plant, owner or Managing Director of an industrial company, or a property owner? Would you like to implement mitigation activities, but the planned investments exceed your financial capabilities?

New series part #1: Clean Cooking – A Meaningful Contribution to Climate Protection
)
In our new series on climate action abroad, we aim to provide a fact-based and nuanced insight into how market mechanisms under the Paris Agreement function, and the benefits that climate protection activities financed in this manner offer.
Our first article focuses on clean cooking initiatives. How do they work, how do they change everyday life locally, and what benefits do they provide?
