International carbon markets often seem abstract, technical and difficult to grasp: emission reduction, CO₂ allowances, emissions trading, standards, regulations and reporting obligations. Yet behind all this complexity lies climate protection in practice at a local level – the people, their everyday lives and their environment.
For the past few months, we have been sharing short video clips from time to time. They tell of the opportunities that are emerging, of improved air quality, and of newly created jobs that help with climate protection. The series kicked off with a look at the ‘WAHU movement’ centred on e-bikes in Ghana’s gig economy. The latest video clip now delves into the world of ‘Clean Cooking’.
In recent months, the SB 64 Climate Conference in Bonn has also been the talk of the town; the KliK Foundation took part in this event alongside its partner country, Zambia. And, of course, the intense heat that dominated the summer in Switzerland, which led to even louder calls for greater climate protection in many places. Climate-friendly cooking stoves that change lives

Climate protection is most effective when it directly affects people’s lives. This is precisely the achievement of the cooking stove programmes run by Envirofit/ACT, UpEnergy and BURN in Ghana. Improved cooking stoves reduce fuel consumption, lower smoke exposure in households and make everyday life easier for families. At the same time, they cut CO₂ emissions, which forms the basis for financial support from the KliK Foundation.

SB 64: Official side event with Zambia – a complete success

This June, the so-called ‘Subsidiary Bodies’ of the Bonn-based United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) met for the 64th time. The interim negotiations in Bonn serve as important preparation for the annual UN Climate Change Conference (COP). The KliK Foundation also took part in SB 64. Together with the Zambian Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, it organised an official side event on Wednesday 17 June. The main topic was how the identification of priority sectors can help to enable additional Mitigation activities in Switzerland’s partner countries in accordance with Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
Speakers from Zambia, Senegal, Malawi and Switzerland shared experiences and findings from their work and explained how they aim to ensure the integrity of Mitigation activities under Article 6.2 whilst achieving concrete results. They offered practical advice to their colleagues and engaged in discussion with an interested audience. For its part, the KliK Foundation provided insights into the complex interrelationships between time pressure, constantly changing rules and the need for a sound basis for decision-making for buyers of ITMOs, as well as for project promoters and partner countries.
